The alarm goes off, and the day begins. You stumble out of bed, bleary-eyed and barely awake. As the morning gears up, your mind is racing. You check the weather, get dressed for work, grab breakfast, and then head out the door.
Finding time for everything you need to do in the morning is hard. The morning can be a hectic time as we're trying to fit all of our regular routines into just a few short hours before going to work or wherever else we need to be. But if we prioritise starting our days off right with some simple rituals, we'll set ourselves up for a great day.
My day is different from the usual 9 to 5. I'm a full-time writer, and I work for myself. Things don't always go as planned, but I aim to write in the morning every day. Getting high-value tasks done before noon is non-negotiable. The first half of the day is a golden opportunity to get almost all your high-value work done. Your most precious and productive hours are the first four hours — it's when we are focused and full of energy.
I feel more refreshed and alert in the morning, so I've scheduled to write before noon. In the morning, distractions are minimal. My focus is razor-sharp, and my writing flows effortlessly. It's a sacred time. If I'm not able to write in the morning, I move the post-in-progress to the first thing on my list for the following morning.
